60th Anniversary of the Independence Day

Every year, Algeria celebrates its independence day on the fifth of July. An occasion that is so special this year because of symbolizing sixty years of nation building. The date of 5th July is one of the stations of our glorious History and an occasion dear to the hearts of all Algerians, it deserves the duty of gratitude, gratefulness and loyalty to the Heroes of Algeria who made a Glorious Revolution that all the world is still witnessing, after doing the supreme sacrifice made by one and a half million Martyrs for the sake of freedom and liberty from the pitiless colonization that lasted 132 years.

Like the youth of November 1954 who sacrificed their lives for the release of the Homeland, today’s youth, faithful to the morals and values of the ancestors, carried the process of nation building immediately after the recovery of national sovereignty.

So, Algeria move in the stage of building and construction, by laying the industrial foundations and the base structures for Algeria of today. It followed the path of construction and erection and its sons began to lay the grounds of development and improvement of the individual and the society. These efforts resulted valuable achievements and realizations in various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, basic structures and public utilities. The same achievements that were shown in the design of this year’s postage stamp, which carried the official symbol that was designed to celebrate the sixties of independence in the form of a circular frame bearing 60 stars symbolizing the union, the national unity and the years of independence, inside which are the pages of a book meaning the national memory record.  The first golden page represents the solid bond between The National Liberation Army and the People’s National Army and its contribution in strengthening national cohesion.

The official symbol represents the know-how of the People’s National Army and how it possesses the capabilities required to defend national Sovereignty and to preserve the territorial integrity. It also represents the science and the technological development witnessed by the New Algeria, which is living its sixth decade of independence.
